Using Software for Link Building Can be Dangerous

Link building plays a major role for any company to truly increase their ranking for keywords on the major search engines. A lot of high quality inbound links (links coming to your website from other websites) is a huge factor in search engine optimization.

However, for most of us, link building can be a tedious task. Trawling through the web finding link partners, then contacting them is tremendously time consuming. This task can take up many hours of time within a week.

That is why shortcuts seem appealing. Many companies invest in automated link building software. This software automatically finds link partners and contacts them through template emails. However, this technique will probably be a waste of time, as the email will probably ignored.

Excellent high quality links can be found from a number of sources including:
1.On Google and Yahoo. Type in your search terms and review the first 1000 results. Look for companies and partners that might link to you
2.Find out who links to your competitors and get links from the same sources – check out www.linkpopularity.com
3.Online news publications
4.Forums

The only way to engage with possible link partners is to review their websites to see if they are appropriate and then send a personalized email telling them where (on what page) and why they should link to you. One of the most effective ways to acquire high quality links is to offer content that the site might find useful. Another effective way is to become an active and trusted member of a forum. However both of these methods require some manual work and automatic link building software can not provide this personalized approach.

Link building must be seen by the search engines as “organic”. Large increases in links from poor quality link farms and directories will be seen as suspicious by Google and Yahoo and will do nothing to increase your rankings.

We at Com.Motion only use link building software to keep track of who we contact, what their reply was and whether they placed a link. The rest of the link work unfortunately is a manual effort that requires considerable time. However the results pay off on the long run.
