Google lifts its ban on paid search advertising for gambling websites in the UK.

It is with interest that we note Google’s sudden shift in policy that now allows advertisers to advertise gambling sites within the Google AdWords sponsered search network.

Previously the domain of Yahoo, gambling websites have been banned from Google until now and it will be interesting to see how this sudden change of policy affects market share with he search engines.

Our first thoughts are that Yahoo sales will take a hit but time will tell. At the time of writing this article these were the average costs per clicks for the following keyword search terms on Google AdWords:

  • Poker websites, position 1 – 3 - £3.29 per click
  • Casino on line, position 1 – 3 - £3.32 per click
  • Casino websites, positions 1 – 3 - £2.06 per click
  • Online Poker, positions 1 – 3 - £2.50 per click
Cost per clicks are already on the move in this hugely competitive industry and it will be interesting to see how the costs vary in the coming months.
